rd2b limited - background
Founded in 1996 by Patrick and Sandra Hüppi, rd2b limited — also now known as Skyline Development AG and today known as Urbanstreet — has been headquartered from 1999 to 2020 in a converted top-floor warehouse in Zurich.
From the outset, the founders heavily invested in IT infrastructure, resulting in a second hand office furniture design that employees and clients alike found welcoming — so much so that this distinctive style remains till today "as the spirit of rd2b".
Patrick Hüppi belongs to the first generation of ETH architects who used digital drafting from day one, a focus on technology that continues to shape the firm’s work.
Over the years, rd2b briefly expanded to São Paulo, Brazil. Following the closure of the Brazilian branch, the company invented a unique international design style.
Today, Urbanstreet Development AG is renowned for its innovative approach to digital architecture and its ability to deliver complex projects efficiently, demonstrating a continued commitment to pioneering design and cutting-edge technology. For todays projects are the next generation responsible with Leonie, Timothy, Cyrill and Angelina Hüppi (student), and words in our self-owned Office at Goldbach Station Küsnacht at the beautiful Lake of Zurich.
A heartfelt thank you to all our employees, partners and clients! Without you, the projects of the past almost 30 years and the "spirit of rd2b", which now lives on in urbanstreet, would not have been possible. Each and every one of you has contributed to our success with your influence.
Over the past three decades, Patrick Hüppi has established himself as a innovative figure in Swiss and international architecture, blending time-honored building traditions with visionary project development. A 1995 graduate of ETH Zürich in Architecture and holder of an Executive MBA from the University of St. Gallen (HSG), Hüppi combines design excellence with entrepreneurial flair. His career began with an influential year in New York City at Turner Construction, where he contributed to major projects such as the Museum of Jewish Heritage and the New York Mercantile Exchange, gaining hands-on experience in project management and high-profile construction.
Returning to Switzerland in 1996, Hüppi and his wife Sandra launched Skyline Architecture / rd2b limited in Zürich, focusing on architectural design, general planning, and real estate development. Their portfolio grew to encompass industrial facilities, large-scale housing projects, commercial developments, and complex urban planning. In 2003, Hüppi founded a second branch in São Paulo, showcasing his passion for cross-border collaboration and his appreciation for Brazil’s vibrant architectural scene. Though the office closed in 2014, the experience ignited his belief in the enriching power of international exchange—an ethos he later championed as President of the International Section of the Swiss Society of Engineers and Architects (SIA).
Recognizing the importance of family stewardship, Hüppi restructured the business in 2021 under the banner Urbanstreet Development AG, bringing his grown children Leonie, Timothy, and son-in-law Cyrill into the operational and strategic leadership. Under his guidance, the family holding has diversified its portfolio to include extensive real estate holdings, infrastructure, and construction-related interests. Hüppi also serves on multiple boards and as a chairperson across Swiss construction and real estate firms, championing innovation, sustainability, and the value of Swiss craftsmanship.
His projects span the globe — from construction management for a townhouse on New York’s Upper East Side with Tod Williams Billie Tsien Architects, to contributing to large-scale urban developments in China in partnership with international firms like von Gerkan, Marg and Partners (gmp). In Brazil, he designed private residences, oversaw museum renovations, and participated in competitions for Olympic facilities in Rio de Janeiro. Meanwhile, in Switzerland, he has steered an array of ambitious undertakings, including housing complexes, logistics centers, industrial buildings, and multi-phase urban redevelopments. Many of these projects emphasize “Design to Cost,” ensuring efficiency and financial viability without compromising architectural integrity.
Central to Hüppi’s philosophy is a commitment to technical innovation and practical education. Drawing on early lessons from his family’s construction background, he believes in supporting apprenticeships and nurturing local expertise while engaging with cutting-edge design technology such as Building Information Modeling (BIM). His ongoing work includes large-scale, mixed-use developments—like the Microncity project in Nidau near Biel and the 24Hour City concept for Kloten Airport—demonstrating his ability to balance ambitious urban visions with pragmatic, cost-conscious implementation.
Today, Patrick Hüppi stands at the helm of an architecture and development enterprise known for its comprehensive approach: from planning and feasibility studies to final construction and long-term asset management. With a global outlook shaped by experience in New York, São Paulo, and beyond, Hüppi continues to push the boundaries of what’s possible in architecture—blending sustainability, technology, and design flair into projects that leave a lasting impact on local communities and the broader built environment.
